Looks to me more like the sand dunes have moved into the area and the local people were intent on saving some of the sites soon to be covered by sand. So they have kept up and excavation of this area for a reason. Looks to be something round sitting on top of a square feature. I think it may be an old well, like a lot of these features usually are. Or at least some sort of religious site that is being kept open by the locals.

not that strange... apparently there are over 100 pyramids (most eroded) scattered thought Egypt along the Nile.

One of the arguments for an older construction date at giza has to do with flattopped pyramids. The middle pyramid at giza is a totally different type and size of stone about 1/3 of the way up. Much larger stones from a different quarry were used on the lower third of the pyramid. With smaller more easily handled stones on top. The argument being that the more modern construction date at giza has to do with the finishing of the middle pyramid. The egyptian worker village around giza would have been for the finishing of the middle pyramid. This theory was scoffed at and dismissed because there are , or at least was, no other flattopped pyramids in egypt. Modern egyptologists would rather you believe that the egyptians ran out of money and switched to easily moved stones to hurry the projects finish. My hope is that the flattopped pyramid has writings and carvings on its top surface like pyramids in s.america. Hopefully prompting a look at th3e original flattop of the middle pyramid at egypt.

I don't really know anything about this sort of thing but there are quite alot of things that look exactly like this on mars.
